Today I got my Northern Beaches Passport out and went over the hill to Dee Why. I heard that once from one of the locals in Freshwater who said he didn’t have a passport to go to Curly. Made me laugh. I’ve never to this day seen him anywhere other than Freshwater Beach lol.
Being on the northern beaches of Sydney people often joke about people from there being on the ‘insular peninsular’ and they’re absolutely right. To the fact that I drove OTB (over the bridge) at the weekend and I thought to myself how different Sydney was to the insular Sydney that I know. I may actually still be in a self-imposed ‘lockdown’ still.
So having got my northern beaches passport firmly out I had a good fly over Dee Why point. It was pretty overcast and the light wasn’t great with poor visibility plus it was drizzling, meh. The wind was up early but due to drop off through the day – an opportunity for a glassy midday surf maybe. Otherwise, it seemed most people got the message to get on with work and stuff other than the beach. There were a few lone warriors out though.
I managed to capture a few shots of Dee Why plus I had a stopover at Curl Curl on the way back to Freshwater Beach international airport and got the drone up over the corner of north Curly. No shots of Cabbage Tree Bay, Manly or Freshwater today – but planning to do the rounds there tomorrow, between drizzle.
Surf today is looking good when the wind drops around lunch. The outlook for the next few days is dropping off followed by a rise in swell Friday and peaking Saturday afternoon in the 6-10ft range with a large S/SSE swell with offshore winds forecast. Unfortunately, the weather doesn’t look like it’s improving anytime soon with thunderstorms and rain predicted for the next ten days or so around the northern beaches.
